Pole Mountain Connector Phase II
Located in the Pole Mountain Unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest 12 miles east of Laramie, Wyoming, the Pole Mountain Connector Trail is a vital addition to the greater trails system throughout the area. Connecting the popular riding areas of Happy Jack in the National Forest and Pilot Hill, a separately managed public trail system, this trail will play an important role in extending the trail network beyond the individual trailheads. With a link up of both trail systems, the region would have almost 100 miles of interconnected recreational trails.
In 2024 the Pointe Strategies team was contracted by Wyoming Pathways to build the 3.1 miles Phase 2 section of the trail to complete the connection from the Pilot Hill property to the Happy Jack Trailhead. The trail was constructed by Pointe Strategies’ senior trail designer and construction manager on-machine for shared use. Knowing that most users will be beginner to intermediate riders the trail incorporates sustainable grades and bike friendly drainage features as well as fun rolling tread and various bike oriented riding features. Durable machine-build techniques were used wherever possible, and we utilized a “minimal disturbance” rule to reduce environmental impact during trail construction. The trail is available to non-motorized travel and is multi-use.
