Catawba Bend Preserve
Location
York, South Carolina
Situated along the Catawba River, Catawba Bend Preserve is a 1900 acre park near Rock Hill South Carolina. Previously managed as a research forest for a paper mill company, the property contains cultivated stands of giant pines, idyllic ponds, and provides a unique opportunity for immersion in nature.
As part of the early park development York County hired Singletrack Trails and Pointe Strategies to plan and construct approximately 5 miles of walking trails. Starting with just a predetermined trailhead the design team had free rein to design a system of trails exploring the most scenic parts of the park. After meeting with the park management team the trail designers explored the terrain and designed a conceptual trail system with trails taking advantage of unique and desirable destinations throughout the area. Working with park management the Pointe Strategies design team refined these plans to create a final trails plan. The trails plan included several hundred feet of crushed stone surfaced trail as well as three bridges 25 feet or longer.
