Laramie Bike Park
Location
Laramie, Wyoming
This project began with the completion of a Laramie Bike Park Feasibility Study, where the Singletrack and Pointe Strategies team worked with Norris Design and the City of Laramie to evaluate 10 potential site locations to determine the best location for a future bike park. After the site was chosen, located between the Laramie High School and the Laramie Recreation Center, the design constraints of the site were determined and a basic layout and concept began.
Using knowledge from other popular large bike parks in the area, certain elements and ideas were incorporated to take advantage of the natural terrain and compensate for the always present Wyoming wind. From the kids area pump track to the large double black advanced slopestyle line to the skills area incorporating real trail conditions in a controlled environment, progression was a large theme in the design of the park. This is the first large scale bike park in the area and the community wanted to be able to grow into this park and allow users of all skill levels to enjoy the trails.
Once an illustrative plan was created, Laramie Parks and Rec worked with the community and the local bike advocacy group to gather feedback to design and refine a finalized bike park layout. With the Pointe Strategies team finalizing the bike park design, Norris Design handled the landscaping, irrigation and shade shelters to round out the assembled set of construction documents for the client to send out to contractors to bid.
